Recruitment Exam Scam: MP Governor’s son named in chargesheet

Madhya Pradesh Governor Ramnaresh Yadav, whose former Officer on Special Duty
(OSD) is in jail in connection with the examination and recruitment scam, is in
fresh trouble with his own son’s name figuring in a supplementary chargesheet.
Veerpal Singh, an accused arrested in November 2014,
alleged that Rs 3 lakh in cash was given to Yadav’s son Shailesh to ensure
that 10 candidates from Bhind cleared the examination for contractual teachers.
A copy of the statement given by Veerpal, a 30-year-old
resident of Prahladpur village in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh, was filed
with the supplementary chargesheet by the special task force (STF) in a CJM
court in Bhopal on Monday.
The investigating agency has neither made Shailesh an
accused in the case nor questioned him so far inviting allegations that it was
going soft on people with clout. Veerpal said that two-and-a-half years ago his
friend Vijaypal, was was close to Shailesh, gave him money along with the names
and roll numbers of the 10 candidates.
Both Yadav and his son are not in Bhopal since the last
three days and have not refuted the charges yet. Sources in the Raj Bhawan said
the matter has been brought to the notice of the Governor, who is expected to
return to Bhopal on Saturday, but he has chosen not to react.
Veerpal’s statement says that while all the 10 candidates
cleared the written examination, they could not be appointed because none of
them had a diploma or Bachelor’s degree in education. He said he had returned
part of the money to the candidates and had promised to return the rest as
well. The police recovered Rs 25,000 from his home in Prahladpur on November
15, 2014, three days after his arrest.
Senior Congress MLA Govind Singh sought intervention by
the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the High Court to monitor the
investigation. “The STF quickly arrests small fries but not the big fish. When
three people have named Shailesh Yadav he should be questioned and arrested,”
Singh told The Indian Express while seeking the governor’s resignation on moral
grounds.
Yadav, the only UPA-appointed governor still in office,
completed three years in September.
